The CVVS exists to encourage interest in historic vehicles of all types on Cornwall's roads. We organise road runs and rallies throughout the year, and take a full part in rallies arranged by other organisations in Cornwall and Devon. We also hold quarterly meetings, sometimes with speakers and sometimes not even about cars or motoring! With just about 150 members we are not a large or impersonal club, but we do make the effort to be a friendly club. If you have an old vehicle, of any sort, then you will know how much you put in to maintaining it and how valuable it is to have the support and advice of people with similar interests. Owning a vehicle is not essential to becoming a member but the enthusiasm from other members may cause you to catch the ownership bug. Look at our diary and come along to a rally or meeting. We shall look forward to meeting you.
Our HistoryThe Society was formed at a meeting held near Camborne in November 1965, when 36 interested enthusiasts met for the first time with the idea of fostering and maintaining an interest in all types of old vehicles. At the time, sceptics were heard to say that it was doomed to failure and that it had all been tried before. However, with typical British stubbornness the founder members went ahead with their plans and within a month of being formed, a monthly newsletter was introduced and a programme of events drawn up. The Society appeared on BBC television and interest and membership swiftly grew. Although at first a small Society, it was very go ahead and soon organised its own annual rally, a "Cavalcade of Transport" along Penzance Promenade, the first time that this type of event had ever been held in the South West. Determined to keep up this image, the CVVS was the first Society in Cornwall to organise a "gas-up" and then in 1973 followed it up with another first, this time the event being an "Autojumble." Today the membership of the Society is around 150 who have an interest in older vehicles. Within the Society there is also an active Austin 7 section. Our aims are still to bring enthusiasts together to foster and maintain an interest in older vehicles whatever their type. Why not join us?It does not matter whether you have a suitable vehicle or not. We have a reputation for being a very friendly club and welcome everybody. Our aims are to bring interested people together to foster and maintain an interest in older vehicles whatever their type.
